ORIGIN OF BELIEF

Every individual’s life is rooted in one form of belief or the other. These beliefs play a major role in our lives, and as such, the way man interacts with his society is largely influenced by what he believes. There is no such thing as a man without any form of belief. Even atheism – a belief that God does not exist is still a form of belief.

Beliefs are what we have accepted as truth. We hold our beliefs dearly like a piece of egg that our very lives depend upon. Our beliefs like garments are worn over our personalities. Suffice it to say that our beliefs define us. Because of the value placed on our beliefs, any form of criticism or indecent representation tends to awaken a spirit of anger/violence in us. This in some cases has escalated to bloodbath. Little wonder why the most savage and violent of conflicts are those relating to religious beliefs.

What are the origins of our beliefs?
We actually get our beliefs from our parents and those we grew up with. We were told what to believe without examining them on our own. While some of us called Christians accepted the faith in our adulthood, others have the Christian beliefs entrenched in them after birth. At birth, our innocent minds, tabular rasa, were completely free of any information about the world. As we grow, little by little, the Christian data were inputted into our minds.

We were brought up to understand that Christianity is the only way out and anything short of the Christian faith leads to eternal damnation. But as we advance in years, we begin to understand more about Christianity and can really decide to either continue or opt out. Deciding to continue in adulthood is more of personal conviction than a dogma that has been fed into us. This prompts the question: Why are you a Christian?

In answering this question, one honestly needs to search his life from childhood.
• Has Christianity drawn you closer to your maker?
• Have you had any experience to recount of how the God of Christianity has been good and merciful to you?
• Does Christianity make you a better person to your loved ones and the society at large?
• And above all, can you truly say Christianity is the only way out?

If your answer to any of the above question is no, then you need to really sit down and think. Perhaps, you have been wasting your precious earthly time on a religion that guarantees you nothing. If on the other hand you answered yes to any of the questions, you still need to sit down and really think it over. Are you practicing it the way you ought to because Christianity is not really a religion but a way of life?

It is an established fact that nowadays people use Christianity as a front to cheat unsuspecting people. People commit all forms of vices under the pretext of “being born again” or having seen the “light”. For those of us who have chosen Christianity out of personal conviction, it is high time we redirected our lives if we had been living short of the Christian values. Our Christianity must be in totality. The Lord says “Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves…” Matt 10:16.

As sheep, how do we arm ourselves against the wolves of this world when we have not been saved from those lurking in our minds? As sheep, how do we triumph over life’s tempting issues when we don’t focus on the Lord? As sheep, how do we not go astray when we have forsaken the Shepherd?

We need to start thinking, talking, and acting Christianity. By his works, a man declares who and what he is. Christ says “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid” Matt 5:14. Everybody loves being around the light. When people start noticing those Christian values in us, they will be drawn to us. They will want to have a feel of that “light” in us after they have been fully persuaded in their minds (Rom 14:5). They will then agree that Christianity is indeed the only way out. We need to prove our Christianity always. We need to affect a life everyday.

BE THE SHARK

The shark is an aggressive predator that is fierce, goal-oriented, and persistent. To bring out the potentials in you to succeed in life, you must be a shark! This is an opportunity for you to learn from this king fish how to aim for the top and never stop.

Aggression

Blood has great attraction for and a maddening effect on the shark. Blood triggers and motivates it to launch savage attacks, even against all odds. When shark smells blood, it goes all out. It does not stop even if it gets wounded.

Have you smelled success? Have you seen opportunity? What is your attitude towards this prospect? Remember, the Scriptures say “…the violent take it by force” Matt 11:12.

Persistence

Various repellants including chemical, air bubble barriers, and electric currents have been used against shark but with little or no success. The shark will retreat when it takes a big blow, but it never surrenders. It always rebound.

No good salesman turns on his heels simply because a prospect said “No” on the first, second, or third call. Isaac dug well, his enemies seized it. He dug another well, they seized it. He dug yet another but this time, they left him alone.

On The Move

Certain species of sharks like the black tip swim non-stop. If they ever hold back, they will suffocate and drown. They are called obligate ram ventilators. Studies show they swim 24/7 to ventilate their gills, find prey and keep warm. Some other species of sharks in this “shoal” swim non-stop because they lack the swim bladder, a small gas-like sac that makes other fishes buoyant.

The success bound man is constantly and purposefully on the move. He cannot afford to stop. The wise King Solomon says “In the morning sow your seed, and in the evening withhold not your hand…” Ecc 11:6.

Not Letting Go

When the shark bites, it thrashes ferociously, never letting go until it’s torn a chunk. This accounts for the fact that this great predator’s teeth are often found on victims or at attack sites.

Jacob was an aggressive man. He wrestled all night and held on tightly to the angel of God insisting “I won’t let you go until you bless me”. Jacob got what he desired.

Vision

The shark’s well developed sensory system (nose, eye, and ear) is the major reason for its success as a predator. Its eyes for one are highly sensitive and adapted to see in dim light. The shark depends on this keen vision to spot prey.

What do you see? Do you see greatness with eyes of faith? Can you perceive the bright spot ahead, even though the reality is dim and bleak? When your eyes possess a God-given vision and a keen spiritual sight, you will never be disappointed. You will always perceive and receive success.

Speed

The shark hits the road swiftly. Speed is natural with sharks. In one rapid burst of speed, a shark can make up to forty miles per hour. And this acceleration power significantly increases when chasing a prey.

Many are chased by poverty, obscurity, and mediocrity, yet they don’t run fast enough. Because they are slow, they do not escape their nightmares or apprehend their dreams. You must move as fast as what is chasing, and even faster than what you are chasing. To survive, speed is of essence.

Faith

Lastly, the shark hopes and depends on God to sustain a supply of prey in its ecosystem. The Bible says “He giveth to the beast his food and the young ravens which cry” Ps 149:9. To attain success, you must pray and trust God for it. God is the Giver and primary agent of success.

TIME

Under his control we are

The control of a tyrant

Making of us his pawn

The very moment we are born

Under his control we are

The control of a tyrant

Making us smile or cry

The moment he deems right

Under his control we

The control of a tyrant

Making us look older

And feel older

Pushing us to the day

The day we die

Under His control we are

The tyrant He gave

As a gift to use

As best we can

And live each moment

According to His divine will

WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION (WMD)

It is almost impossible to open the pages of newspapers or watch the television these days without hearing about weapons of mass destruction. And man is on the quest to perfect these weapons. Weapons of mass destruction (WMD) is a phrase that often strikes a certain degree of discomfort in heart of men. Nations are spending lots of money in research and training of personnel on this abnormal and unusual methodology ; which could be biological, chemical, atomic or nuclear in nature for the sole purpose of achieving a better result, better result in warfare and destruction.

Pakistan, the world’s only nuclear-armed Islamic nation is walking a tightrope between support for the West and radical Islamic elements that want to seize control. Even Iran under Mahmoud Ahmadinejad routinely announces that Israel would be wiped of the map and many experts believe that when Iran develops a nuclear weapon, her leaders would not hesitate to use it to advance their Islamic vision. In anticipation of a possible onslaught, Israel is also amassing weapons in her arsenal and her leaders have promised to do ‘anything’ to defend the State of Israel. South Korea recently promised to punish North Korea for sinking her ship and the 57 sailors onboard. North Korea on her part is still threatening to do more. The human society is now on trigger alert.

The Spiritual Realm

What happens in the natural reflects the spiritual world. If one is spiritually inclined, he will observe an undercurrent opposing the unbelievers. It takes more effort these days to pray, praise God, study the Scriptures, pay tithes and offering than before (…the love of many shall wax cold, Matt 24:12 ). The daily hustling and bustling have denied people the opportunity to spend quality time with their Creator. One of the weapons that the enemy has deplored in enslaving people is ‘busyness’. Everybody is just too busy these days. Most Christians in this generation do not have the time to pray in the morning before setting out for the day; no time to receive instructions from the Lord for the day; no time to envision how the day would run. The enemy is working round the clock to perfect this strategy but we are not ignorant of his devices (2 Cor 2:11).

You Are a Weapon of Mass Destruction

Our God is a man of war. David says “He teacheth my hands to war….” (Ps 18:34). The Scriptures confirm this through the number of wars He(God)led the Israelites into. The good news is that He has not changed his war-like attributes. We Christians are God’s soldiers. We are His WMD’s. Then why are we cowering to the defensive when we should be on the offensive, unleashing terror to the kingdom of darkness?

Thus Paul says “We wrestle not against flesh a

nd blood, but against principalities and powers….” (Eph 6:12). What do you need to become God’s WMD’s to the camp of the enemy? You need to “…stand ready, with truth as belt tight round your waist, with righteousness as breastplate, and as your shoes the readiness to announce the Good News of peace. At all times carry faith as shield: for with it you will be able to put out all the burning arrows of the Evil One” (Eph 6:14-16, Good News Bible)

The Scripture say a Christian shall chase a thousand and two shall put ten thousand to flight (Josh 23:10, Deut 32:30). This indeed proves that we are indeed WMD’s. The Merciful God has given us everything we need to arm ourselves for warfare (2 Pet 1:3). With all the resources at our disposal and our God solidly behind us, what are we waiting for? It is high time we moved and began to cause that havoc to the enemy and his cohorts. Don’t ever fail God in this responsibility. Don’t ever allow the enemy to make you a powerless soldier through ignorance. Don’t ever succumb to the threatening of the Evil One and always keep the victor’s flag flying.

Keep in mind: we don’t fight for victory; rather, we fight from victory.

Have you read your Bible today?

Oh Captain

Oh Captain, my Captain

Captain of the land

Captain of the sea

When we thought

All was naught

In life’s threatening storm

Safely you delivered us

In the midst of nothing

You made us something

Despite man’s lust for war

From you we receive love

Oh Captain, my Captain

Captain of the land

Captain of the sea

What can we compare you with?

What can we measure you with?

The strongest of gods

Before you tremble

The weakest of men

Is strong in your presence

Because of your love

We have survived another day

Because of your love

We are alive this day

Oh Captain, my Captain

Captain of humanity

Captain of the universe

A Captain indeed you are

A NEW DAY

With every dusk cometh a dawn

With every home cometh a groan

With every day cometh a bait

A bait?

Every day brings a new way

What way have me this day

Oh lord?

A new day of happiness

A new day of hope

A new day of love

Is all I long for
